The Two National Parks and other tourist activities

One of our backpackers on a trip we suggested in Abel Tasman National park. No, this is not a tame seal!

Eden's Edge is ideally positioned for exploring one of the most interesting and diverse areas in New Zealand. National parks, Golden Bay, Nelson, interesting towns, cafes ... and award winning wineries plus other activities are all within easy reach. We can tell you all about our region and help you plan great activities.

We can advise you on what to do in the region and make your bookings, for all the popular tourist activities in the area - free of charge.

Abel Tasman National Park
New Zealand's Abel Tasman National Park is one of New Zealand's most popular tourist and holiday attractions and one of the most beautiful forest to sea environments in the world.

There are several seal colonies in the park and our guests often tell us about the penguins, dolphins and sometimes orca whales they have seen on their trips. It is also a sea kayaking and boating / sailing paradise.

Kaiteriteri and Marahau are the main entrances to Abel Tasman National Park and only 15 minutes from Eden's Edge. Bus and tour companies will pick you up from the lodge. Because Abel Tasman has one of New Zealand's Great Walks, hut and camping passes are required if you plan to stay overnight in the park (go to the DOC web-site for these).

Heaphy Track / Kahurangi National Park
Kahurangi National Park is magnificent and more challenging to walk in. There are many beautiful day walks in this 'Lord of the Rings' country; serious hikers often spend several days walking in the park or on the world-famous Heaphy Track which starts in Golden Bay and travels down the park's western sea-edge.

You will need a car if you want to get into Kahurangi. We can transport guests to the Flora car park entry point for a negotiated fee, while Golden Bay Coach lines run to the start of the Heaphy Track in Golden Bay.

Golden Bay
Day visits to Golden Bay are easy to make by car from Eden's Edge; buses also run there and back.

We recommend walking along Wharariki Beach in Puponga Farm Park, visiting the interesting towns of Takaka and Collingwood with their interesting local produce and good cafes; stop and look at The Grove and Labyrinth Rocks or the world-famous Pupu Springs while you are there.

These are just a few of the many things you can do in the Tasman / Golden Bay area.
